IDELT has participated in an ambitious project to promote sustainable transport that has been developed entirely in the Basque Country. The company specialized in the design and manufacture of high added value plastic parts has collaborated with NUUK Mobility Solutions in the production of the new fleet of 6,000 electric motorcycles for the home delivery of the restaurant giant Burger King®, part of the Restaurant Brands Iberia group.

This initiative aims to replace existing delivery vehicles with new electrified ones over the next two years, thus minimizing the environmental impact caused by those units, which travel around 300,000 kilometers per day.

The project is the result of an agreement between Burger King® and NUUK Mobility Solutions, which includes both the manufacture of the new electric motorcycles and their subsequent maintenance. IDELT’s role in this ambitious initiative has focused on the production of the plastic parts that protect the batteries. Specifically, IDELT has been in charge of the design and injection of the protective components of the power supply to adapt them to the technical and functional requirements necessary for their integration in the new vehicles.

This ambitious project, of which more than half a thousand units have already been distributed in the north of Spain and in the Community of Madrid, will avoid the emission of between 10 and 30 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere throughout the useful life of each of the vehicles. Burger King’s commitment to sustainability will be complemented by the supply of green energy to power the new motorcycles through solar panels and other measures that the company has begun to implement.

The new fleet of vehicles consists of a total of 6,000 Ciklo P2.0 model electric motorcycles, which are specifically designed to perform professional services such as delivery, reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h and have a range of 80 kilometers. In addition to reducing their cost per kilometer by 75% compared to combustion vehicles, the new units generate neither environmental nor noise pollution, a fact that contributes to decongesting urban environments and makes them a benchmark in the field of sustainable transport. “Replacing our fleet of motorcycles with electric alternatives is a big step towards reducing our environmental footprint and brings us a step closer to the goal we set for 2030 of reducing 50% of the emissions we generate,” explains Jorge Carvalho, general manager of Burger King® Spain and Portugal.
